A broad and well-respected group of Oxnard leaders has thrown its support behind the Assembly District 35 race of Susan Jordan.
The coalition will hold a fundraising event for Jordan at the home of Oxnard City Councilmember Bryan MacDonald on Saturday, Jan. 23 from 1-4 p.m. at 355 South G St. in Oxnard.
Co-chairs for the event are Oxnard Mayor Tom Holden; the Ventura County Deputy Sheriffs Association; Oxnard Councilmembers Irene Pinkard and Bryan MacDonald; Oxnard School District Board of Trustees Member Denis O’Leary; Oxnard Police Chief John Crombach; Lupe Anguiano, who has received numerous honors for her labor and humanitarian work; businessman Tom Cady; Reverend Edgar Mohorko, chairman of the Clergy Council; local labor leader Leo Valenzuela; and Jesus Torres.
“Our state needs strong leaders like Susan Jordan, who will fight for the people they are elected to represent — not the special interests. Susan has proven that she is a smart and effective advocate for the citizens of Ventura and Santa Barbara counties, and that’s why she has earned my support for State Assembly,” Mayor Holden said.
Jordan’s recent debate against primary opponent Das Williams in Oxnard showed both her strengths as a researcher and as a proven fighter for the people of the district who has gotten winning results for both statewide and local issues through years of non-profit work.
“I am impressed with the breadth and depth of her experience in public policy,” Chief Crombach said. “More importantly, she has a fire in her core and commitment to fight on the issues that are critical to our communities. While others talk about the challenges in the future, Susan sees a host of opportunities. We need strong leadership in Sacramento and Susan Jordan will provide us with that leadership.”
Other local leaders who have endorsed Jordan include Santa Barbara County Supervisor Janet Wolf; former Santa Barbara County Supervisor Susan Rose; former Ventura Mayors and current Councilmembers Brian Brennan and Christy Weir; Santa Barbara City Fire and Police Commissioner Tom Parker; Ventura County Community College District Trustees Cheryl Heitmann, Larry O. Miller and Stephen Blum; Ventura Unified School District Board of Trustees Member Mary Haffner; Oxnard School District Trustee Arthur Joe Lopèz; Oxnard Union High School District Trustee Dick Jaquez; former Port Hueneme Mayor Murray Rosenbluth and former Oxnard Mayor Jane Tolmach.
Susan Jordan is an award-winning environmental leader, businesswoman, health advocate, mother and former local planning commissioner with 15 years of experience working to protect California’s coastline as an economic, environmental and recreational resource.
